Watkins Hired as Village Manager.
WATKINS HIRED AS VILLAGE MANAGER
Newberry, MI – At its October 20th regular meeting the Village Council voted unanimously to appoint Allison Watkins as the new Village Manager. Watkins began working for the Village in 2017 as the Director of Human Resources and Community Engagement and has served as Interim Village Manager since October of 2019.
Village President Lori Stokes stated, “Allison Watkins has proven herself to be competent, knowledgeable, trustworthy and transparent in handling the business of our community for the past year as our Interim Village Manager. The decision to offer her the permanent position of Village Manager was made without any doubts in my mind that it was the correct direction to take. Newberry residents can feel confident that Allison will continue to work diligently for the good of our community.”
Allison Watkins was born and raised in Hillsdale County, Michigan. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Public Administration from Northern Michigan University. Watkins began her public service career with the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), a federal program that provides essential services to communities in need through team-based service projects. In her 16 years with NCCC Watkins fostered leadership and professionalism skills in young adults aged 18-24, performed policy oversight and compliance, and managed partnerships with community and faith-based organizations, and federal, state, and local agencies. She lived in several states from coast to coast, including Maryland, Texas, California, and Iowa before returning to Michigan in the summer of 2017. She is the President of the Newberry Area Chamber of Commerce and is a board member with the Eastern Upper Peninsula Regional Planning and Development Commission.

The Village Manager serves as the Village of Newberry’s chief administrative officer and is responsible for coordination and oversight of the activities of Village departments. Responsibilities include directing administrative services, budget preparation and oversight, hiring employees, and advising and assisting the Village Council.
